Our Favorite Homemade Vinaigrette

Want a great healthy tip for eating salads? Make your own salad dressing. Not only do you save money on grocery store dressing but the health benefits are huge. Most importantly, when you make your own, you know every single ingredient, therefore you don’t end up with a lot of unhealthy additives. Low fat and low calorie dressings are at the bottom of our list because of all the added sugar to make up for the lack of fat or calories. Making your own – you can control how much you put in and put on your salad, making it a very healthy choice for you!

Here is one of our favorites! And it’s easy! If you cannot afford or cannot find basil oil, just use EVOO instead!

¼ cup fresh lemon juice
¾ cup basil infused olive oil
Pinch of sugar
Salt and pepper
Two dashes of hot sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Whisk all ingredients except basil infused olive oil until blended in small bowl. Slowly pour in the oil, continuing to whisk until emulsified. Using personal blenders for this recipe can be done as well. We like to store our dressings in a plastic condiments bottle  – preferably a squeeze one with a small opening. You can buy these at food stores like the US Food Store and maybe Sam’s as well! Enjoy!
